Description

(a) Trevill charity with changes brought about by Chancery (1s. per week charged on the manor of Botelet, in Lanreath, the other shilling on the manor of Treganhawke in St. John).

(b) Will of Mrs. Joan Bennett, 10 August 1650: rents and profits from premises in Princess Place, Plymouth rent from which (£46 yearly) given away in bread, except £6 reserved for Minister of Maker parish for preaching twelve sermons in Maker Church on Sunday afternoons during the summer.

(c) Will of John Lanyon 15 September 1674. 40s. annually. Payable at Christmas by Treasurer of Plymouth Corporation.

(d) Will of Mr. Stephen Edwards donation of 6s. yearly (Christmas) charged on a house in Kingsand.

(e) Will of James Smith 15 June 1809 - interest from £45 in the Union Savings Bank at Devonport.

Mention of withholding of money and suit in Chancery (see P 152/25/4) and recovery. Money from all Charities plus money received from Corporation of Plymouth to improve and widen the street in Princess Place plus charity of James Smith (see (e)) to be placed in Union Savings Bank at Devonport and interest to be given away in bread to the poor of Maker. Total sum £196, interest payable half yearly on Thursdays after Midsummer Day and Christmas Day.

Postscript to P152/25/8 about another charity - a house in Plympton held on lease for term of years and one life which produced a rent of eight shillings 'which is carried into the Church Account'. The said House is used as the Post Office and the lease in the year 1835'.
