In these letters to Lady Russell, Rachel Spencer writes asking after her health and her own travels. She mentions the rectory at Stockport that her brother gave to a clergyman. She mentions Lady Byrne, her sister Warren and Mr Edward Warren. Her second letter includes mention of: her investment in the South Sea company and her pondering on whether the stock will go up or down in value and how this may affect her; her intention to wait on Lady Russell when she arrives in town; her anticipation of news from the Duke of Devonshire and his friends concerning "this grand affair that concerns so many in this nation"; her sister's wishes for Lady Russell and her intention to visit on her way to Oxfordshire.
