Parham Archives (main collection)

In the 1920s, when the Parham estate was bought by the Pearsons, the archive was split into two: the family papers remained in the possession of the Zouche family, and moved location, whereas the estate records stayed physically at Parham House. The two sets were both brought to the Record Office, in Chichester, in the 1970s. A further large tranche of estate material from the 19th and early 20th centuries joined them in the 1990s, and several further smaller deposits have been made since then. Most of the Parham Archives has been catalogued, but there are still some uncatalogued parts of the collection. In 2006, under the 'England's Past for Everyone' schame, run by the Victoria County History, six volunteers relisted most of the material on to purpose-built spreadsheets. Further listing was carried out in the intervening years. These have since been checked, resorted and rechecked. The archive is now reunited and sorted into three main categories: Estate Records, Family Records, and Transcripts.

Note: There is no main form of the spelling of the family name 'Bishop'. 'Bisshopp' has been used by the VCH in their book in 2009. However, we have opted for the simplest form of spelling, 'Bishop', throughout.
