Administrative / biographical background

The Oxford and Edinburgh Conferences of 1937-1938 led to calls for the setting-up of a World Council of Churches (WCC) and the subsequent founding of a Council on the Christian Faith and Common Life (CCFCL) in 1938. In 1942 CCFCL amalgamated with the Commission of the Churches for International Friendship and Social Responsibility (CCIFSR) to form a single body, namely the British Council of Churches (BCC).
