Black half-leather album, 307 x 420 mm, containing uncaptioned prints mounted with adhesive corner mounts. The photographs are the work of commercial photographers covering events attended by the Governor of Bombay and are mostly informal shots, with only a few formally posed portraits. The majority of the events are unidentified and undated, both on the mount and print verso, but one can assume they took place during Sir Frederick Sykes' period in office as Governor of Bombay 1928-33. Prints 1-6 (some captioned on verso) The Governor and Lady Sykes visiting the Gokak Falls and cotton-mills, Nov 1929. Print 7 (caption on verso) Portrait with the Governor, Raja and officials, during a visit to Akalkot (Raja Shrimant Vijayasinhrao Bhonsle). Print 8 (caption on verso) Portrait: 'Taluka Local Board, Navalur, 1st Nov 1929'. Print 9 Snapshot portrait of three unidentified British officers. Prints 10-15 Lady Sykes attending a Girl Guides Rally, Bombay. Prints 16-35 Miscellaneous views of the Governor and Lady Sykes attending various events in Bombay. including a visit to the racecourse and the Governor delivering a speech in an assembly hall. Prints 36-61 (some captioned on verso) Views of the visit of the Governor of Bombay to Karachi to open the new Law Courts and perform other official functions. Photographs include his arrival on the Vita, inspecting the Guard of Honour, speech-making, the opening of the Law Courts, and meeting Boy Scouts. Prints 62-66 Opening of the Muslim Hostel at Hyderabad (Sindh)? Print 67 Group portrait with the Governor and Baluchi/Sindh officials? Prints 68-71 Views of the Governor inspecting troops and laying a wreath at an unidentified memorial. Print 72 (caption on verso) 'HE arriving at Ahmedabad'. Print 73 (caption on verso) 'HE leaving Ahmedabad Sta. for Shahi Bagh (Hostile demonstration in background cannot be seen)'. Print 74 Portrait of the Governor with unidentified officials. Prints 75-100 (brief captions on versos) Official visit of the Governor to Kolhapur State, including his arrival, visit to the racecourse with the Maharaja, attending a Scout Rally, riding in the Maharaja's four-in-hand, view of a performing elephant, visiting Panhala Fort, opening the Sykes Avenue, laying the foundation stone of the Lady Sykes School, view of nightime illuminations, and views of a state banquet at the New Palace. Prints 101-104 Views of the Governor in his carriage with escort. Prints 105-107 Lady Sykes attending a Scout Rally. Print 108-109 The Governor attending the races.
