The two parishes were united by Order in Council, 24 May 1967 (London Gazette, 26 May 1967).
St. Oswald's church was consecrated on 7 April 1855 and a District assigned to it from St. Michael's, Manchester, by Order in Council, 24 June (London Gazette 1 July 1856).
St. Catherine's church was consecrated on 5 November 1859, having been built by the congregation of St. Paul's, Kersal, for Rev. Abraham Haworth. It was assigned a District from St. Thomas's, Red Bank, St. Michael's, Manchester, and St. Oswald's, by Order in Council, 10 May 1860 (London Gazette, 16 May 1860).
In 1972 the united parish joined with the parishes of St. James, Collyhurst and Albert Memorial, Collyhurst, with St. Augustine's, Newton Heath, to form the Church of the Saviour, Collyhurst (Order in Council, 26 July, London Gazette, 28 July 1972).
