Custodial history (Describes where and how the record has been held from creation to transfer to The National Archives)
-
Of the very large number of charities administered by the Corporation, most were transferred to the Bristol Municipal Charity Trustees under the Municipal Corporations Act, 1835. Their archives with few exceptions were also handed over to the new trustees (many subsequently deposited back in the Record Office by the Trustees in the 20th century). The following records remained with the Corporation after 1835.
