An Improvement Act Committee was appointed by the Council on 14 June 1844 to promote the passing of a Chester Improvement Act. The first meeting of the committee is dated 16 June 1844 and the Chester Improvement Act received the royal assent on 30 June 1845.
The New Improvement Act Committee was established by the Council on 9 Feb. 1876 and the first meeting of this committee was held on 27 June 1876. The Chester Improvement Act 1884 received the royal assent on 7 Aug. 1884
