Description

Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Lodge of Hengist [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1774, 1775, 1777 - 1780, 1782 - 1785, 1888 - 1796, 1798, 1799, 1805, 1806, 1808 and 1809 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The Lodge of Hengist No. 195 was established in 1770 and met at the New Inn, Pokesdown, Christchurch, Hampshire. The lodge was named the Lodge of Hengist in 1803. In 1851 the lodge moved from Churchdown to Bournemouth, Hampshire, meeting at the Belle Vue Hotel, The Pier. The lodge now meets at Freemasons' Hall, Knole Road, Bournemouth.
