Continued appeal by Camborne against order of 27 Nov. last, for removal of Philip Rule, jun., his wife Betsy, and their daus. Harriet (6), and Caroline (4) from Gwinear. It was stated that Philip Rule, sen., the pauper's father, together with his parents and their other children, was removed, on 1 June 1789, from Camborne to St. Erth, bound, until 21 years old, by St. Erth parish officers to Richard Tredinnick, of St. Erth, farmer. The apprentice lived with his master for some years and served him in husbandry until R.T. became reduced in circumstances, and worked at the mines, employing his apprentice in the same work. He then moved to Phillack, taking his apprentice with him. About 2 years before the apprenticeship expired there was a dispute between the mistress and the apprentice, the latter leaving saying he would never return. Philip Rule, sen., then went to live with his parents in Camborne where they occupied a small cottage at 50s. a year, his father working as a lab. at Hirland Mine. A few days after his apprentice left R.T. found him (the apprentice) working for his (the apprentice's) father at Hirland Mine, and told the father that if he kept the apprentice he, R.T., "would take up his wages". The father said he didn't wish to keep the boy, but that he wouldn't go back. It was then agreed in May that the boy should be given up to the father "in consideration of four guineas to be paid on the next Mine Pay day for Ores on which the father and son were then working". The money was paid at next pay day on 16 Aug. following when R.T. delivered the indenture to the father. Whilst living with his father in Camborne, all the apprentice's wages were given to his father who supplied him with meat and clothes and other necessaries as he did to the rest of his children. When the apprentice became of age he received his own wages, and the indenture from his father. When the apprentice was removed to St. Erth his father went to live in Crowan, and was there, and also in Camborne, relieved by St. Erth parish officer: order reversed. Gwinear to pay Camborne ten guineas costs and maintenance.
