The Madras Military Fund was established in 1808 and closed to new subscribers in 1862. It applied to regular officers and chaplains of the Madras Army and provided pensions for their dependents. It was optional for Madras medical officers up to 1847. On the officer's death, pensions were provided for his widow and legitimate children. Sons benefited until their twenty-first birthday, and daughters until they married. Daughters who were widowed or divorced were often re-admitted to the Fund.
