Description

Annual statements of accounts for Baker's Charity, 1852-54, 1855-60, 1863.

ff.1,2. 30 June 1853. Annual statement of accounts of Baker's Charity 1852 to 30 June 1853, stating the trustees names, income from land owned by the charity and names of lesses; income from consols and South Sea Annuities owned by the charity; outgoings on property and land tax paid by the charity on its lands and balance for the accounts.

f.3,4. 30 June 1854. Annual statement of accounts of Baker's Charity, 1853 to 30 June 1854. Arranged as in ff.1,2, including property tax rebate for the financial year ending 5 April 1852.

ff.5,6. 30 June 1856. Annual statement of accounts of Baker's Charity 1858 to 30 June 1856, arranged as in ff.1,2, including expenses of purchasing new stock.

Samuel Baker's Charity was established 20 Feb. 1689/90, providing for the schooling of 8 male children from a rent of £8 yearly from a wharf, Redriff Wall, St. Mary's Parish, Bermondsey, London. By the Will of Samuel Baker, a rent charge of £20 was added and his executors purchased a school house, the above land, land in Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, was conveyed to the Trustees, who sold the real estate, purchasing for £850 land in Stoke in the County of the City of Coventry and land in St. Michael's Parish, Coventry, 9 May 1703.
