During World War II, the Hydraulic Engineering Company choir and concert party gave concerts in the Chester area to raise money for charity and to entertain H.M.Forces. After the war a small group of men from the choir regrouped to form the Cestrian Male Voice Choir. The choir grew to 80 members by 1961 and gave regular concerts for charities, as well as organising bi-annual festivals, for which well known professional singers were brought to Chester. The choir has also toured abroad and still gives many concerts in the Chester area.
