Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Sun and Sector Lodge [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1792 - 1799, 1809 and 1810 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

Sun and Sector Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge on 22 April 1774 to meet as No. 478 at the Sun and Sector inn, Workington, Cumbria. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 383 in 1780, as No. 384 in 1781, as No. 312 in 1792 and as No. 398 in 1814. The Lodge was named the Sun and Sector Lodge in 1814 when the Moderns' Grand Lodge and the Antients' Grand Lodge formed a union as the United Grand Lodge of England. By 1784 the Lodge met at Mrs Mary Messenger's in Workington and in 1785 the Lodge relocated to the Green Dragon, Portland Square, Workington, where meetings remained until the Lodge was erased on 5 March 1828.
