Collection of lantern slides originally stored in a 12-drawer wooden cabinet with an accompanying index book. The collection has now been rehoused in boxes.The slides belonged to Frederick Oscar Lechmere-Oertel (1862–1931), of the Indian Public Works Department (who was also presumably the photographer of a portion of the collection), who used them to illustrate lectures given in the 1920s. The slides in the index are numbered 1–579, but as well as these the box contains a number of unordered views from India, the Middle East and Europe, as well as some unmounted slides and packets of lantern slide 'cover glasses'.
