The award ceremony was held on 22 Oct 2002.The shortlisted authors were:Yann Martel with the winning novel 'Life of Pi', published by Canongate,Rohinton Mistry with 'Family Matters', published by Faber & Faber,Carol Shields with 'Unless', published by Fourth Estate,William Trevor with 'The Story of Lucy Gault', published by Viking,Sarah Waters with 'Fingersmith', published by Virago, andTim Winton with 'Dirt Music', published by Picador.The Judges were Lisa Jardine (Chair), David Baddiel, Russell Celyn Jones, Salley Vickers, and Erica Wagner.The Man Group plc became the new sponsors of the Prize.
