Description

Two photograph albums and one ringbinder with clear plastic wallets containing letters, estimates, receipts and bills from companies and businesses all over York. The items were bought at auction by Darryl Buttery on behalf of the Company and received into the Company Archive on 16 April 2014.

Note supplied by Sarryl Buttery: 'Boulton and Cooper sale at Murton on Wednesday 9th April [2014], I had finished viewing but them spotted that some lots were under a table. To my great surprise they contained this archive material from the company. I went in person to bid and this secured them.

The items appear to be a collection of the Clerk's papers dealt with outside the Hall by A Proctor, N. T. Crombie and G N P Crombie, and then dispersed.

Alfred Procter was admitted to the Company in 1910; Secretary 1901 -1932; died 1933. His office was in New Street, York.
Norman Thomson Crombie, solicitor, admitted 1906; Jun. warden 1924; DG 1926; Gov. 1927; Secretary 1933 - 1937; died 1937.

George Norman Paul Crombie admitted in 1931; Secretary 1937 - 1959; Jun. warden 1946; Sen. warden 1947; DG 1948; Gov.1949; died 7/1/1987. His firm of solicitors was housed at Clifford House, Clifford Street, York. By 1950 the firm was known as Crombie, Wilkinson & Robinson.

Charles William Robinson, admitted 1943, assistant secretary 1943; acting clerk/secretary 1944 -1946, 1949; Jun. warden 1965; Sen. warden 1966; DG 1967; Gov. 1968; died 3/3/1989.
