Description

The publicity leaflet (ref: X 798/6/1) gives the following information:

"The consent of the Ministry of Fuel and Power for the installation of 60,000 kilowatts of generating plant at Goldington was received in June 1950 and in August 1951 consent to develop the Station to an ultimate capacity of 180,000 kilowatts was obtained. The first of the six 30,000 kilowatt generators was commissioned in June 1955 and the final unit in 1958".

Records received from National Power PLC, Elstow Storage Depot, Kempston Hardwick, relating to the construction of Goldington power station. 14 April 1992.

Administrative / biographical background

The generating station ceased operation in October 1983 and gradual demolition followed, with the cooling towers being blown up in March 1987.
