Black and grey half-leather album, measuring 379 x 272 mm, containing snapshots mounted six to a page. The prints, many of which are uncaptioned, show varying degrees of fading, with some being severely affected. The photographs, presumably by Colonel Watson, were taken during his training in tropical medicine at Netley Hospital, England, and during the early days of his career with the Bombay Army, and include portraits of friends and colleagues, views of the hospital and patients, and miscellaneous topographical views in England and India. Prints 1-17 Views of Netley Hospital, including the main building, revolver range, visit of Queen Victoria, and Mess room. Prints 18-24 Shipping in the Solent. Prints 25-36 Views of Romsey Abbey, Col Chester's house and Netley Abbey. Prints 37-42 Miscellaneous portraits and views, including a group on a yacht, Porchester Castle and Netley sports day. Prints 43-48 Picnic at Porchester Castle. Prints 49-67 Portraits at Netley, including group in Mess kit, amateur dramatics group, patients, portraits of various medical officers, and stretcher drill. Prints 68-73 Views of the New Forest and Lyndhurst. Prints 74-124 Miscellaneous portraits and views in England, including the Watson family and friends at home and on holiday. Prints 125-136 Views from a ship en route to India. Prints 137-179 Miscellaneous views and portraits in India, including Bombay, group with a canoe, ponies, Colonel Watson's father's grave, bungalow at Rajkot, Malakand, and yacht and carriage at Poona. Prints 180-189 Miscellaneous portraits and views, including Suez Canal. Print 190 Karli cave entrance. Prints 191-201 Watson family portraits. John Williams Watson (b. 1874) served in the Indian Medical Service from 1898-1929. In 1908 he was civil surgeon at the Consulate at Turbat-i-Haidari, south of Meshed.
