The ancient borough remained associated with the manor, and the town's records commence with minutes of town meetings in 1795. A Local Board of Health was constituted in 1851, which became an Urban District Council in 1895. Finally in 1936 Altrincham was re-established as a borough by charter

The records of the ancient borough are not known to have survived, apart from the foundation charter, c.1290. A preliminary check list of the surviving borough records is available (see Accession File), the earlier ones being placed in the borough library.

The records listed below, deposited by the Town Clerk in July 1963 are mainly the bulky series of rate books. The principal series of minutes and other records of the borough remain at the Town Hall.
