Administrative / biographical background

The Society was created to fulfil the requirements for local history research to cover the whole borough. It soon began to publish annually the results of this research by individual members. The inaugural meeting was held on 24 Mar 1974 at Stockwell College, which together with the Central Library provided a venue for Society meetings and activities.
