Description

Folio 181. Letter from H M Burrell and William Chapman, overseers of the parish of Bintry in the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union from 26 March1884 to 20 March 1885 to the Local Government Board. They write in reply to a letter dated 18 February concerning a discrepancy reported by the district auditor between the valuation list and the rate book. Enquiries have been made and it appears that the overseer's copy of the valuation list has been lost or mislaid. They have looked at the original list presently in the hands of the clerk to the assessment committee and have found that three cottages have been accidently entered twice in supplemental lists by the overseers at different periods. This has now been pointed out to the assessment committee so that the matter can be put right in the future. An application has been made to aforesaid committee to supply the overseer with a certified list.
Annotated: 'Report to the auditor (Mr T H K Roberts) for information', 20 March 1885.
