The Clergy Pensions Fund was set up in 1887, originally under the title "Queen Victoria Jubilee Clergy Pensions Fund" to provide "Retiring Pensions for deserving Incumbents". Clergy pensions were brought under diocesan control in 1934 when the Fund was placed under a committee of the Board of Finance. A new clergy pension board was set up in 1946, and continued until 1955 when most of its responsibilities were assumed by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners
