Description

Leather-bound volume entitled 'Family Letters Eyre Gell etc', with metal clasp engraved 'In Memory of John Nicholas Gell, Bn 4th Feb'y 1805 Ob't 8th Aug't 1836'

18th cent engraving of 'Coopersdale Hall, the Seat of Mrs Chevely' [near Epping, Essex] stuck onto first folio

Letters mostly concerned with the Archer family of Welford near Newbury (Berkshire) and Coopersale (Essex) [descendents of William Eyre of Holme near Chesterfield, possibly related to John Eyre who inherited the Gell estates on death of Sir Philip Gell in 1719]; volume also includes some family correspondence of Philip Eyre Gell (d 1795) and Philip Gell (d 1842)
