There is no doubt that his action on this day was the means of saving many lives, and of helping to restore the situation at a critical period."

"To OC 35 MG Bn: I wish to bring to your notice the excellent work done by the No 2 Section, "A" Coy of your Bn during the attack carried out by the 196 Bde both on Zanvoorde and on Wervico.All through these operations, your section gave me every assistance I could wish for and at one point during the attack of Wervico helped materially in saving a critical situation. I would specially bring to your notice the work of "/Lt Barr. This officer carried out his work in a very gallant manner and was, unfortunately, killed whilst going forward under very heavy machine gun fire to find out the position in front with a view of bringing up his guns to support us with direct fire."
