A collection of 157 black-and-white prints, mainly snapshots, relating to the life and career of Frederick Charles Turner (1872-1950), Indian Civil Service (Central Provinces) 1895-1931. The majority of the collection was received in envelopes arranged by subject and date, with some prints bearing additional information on the reverse. The material is arranged as follows:. 1. Loose prints, including family portraits from Turner's boyhood and youth (with two tintypes) and early years in India, c. 1870s-1900s. (33 photographs). 2. Envelope marked Port Said, Canal, Aden, Bombay, 1905. Poor quality snapshots. (10 prints). 3. Envelope marked Mandhata 1905. Temples scenes and views on the Narmada River. (12 prints). 4. Envelope marked Pandaria Dec 1905. Temple scene. (1 print). 5. Envelope marked Palanpur, with list of subjects, dated 16.1.06. Views of temples. (6 prints). 6. Envelope marked Xmas camp, Durbar, camp scenes, 1906. Poor quality. (9 prints). 7. Envelope marked Bilaspur, Khonda Exhibn. [c. 1906]. Poor quality. (6 prints). 8. Envelope containing prints of tiger hunting and camp scenes, 1907. Untitled, apart from one print captioned on verso, J. Hance's tiger. Shot 27th Dec 1907, Achanakmar. (6 prints). 9. Envelope marked Pendra Rail & Amarkantah - 1909. Railway scenes, landscape and two views of temple groups. (9 prints). 10. Envelope marked Lapha 1909. camp scenes and landscapes, two temple views. (8 prints). 11. Photo wallet marked Pendra and Lormi Hills 1910. (5 prints). 12. Untitled envelope containing hunting scenes, bullock carts and a view of an unidentified house. Two of the prints are captioned on verso: Rukhar Xmas Camp 1915 (Karn shikari) taken by Mrs Hance. (8 prints). 13. Photo wallet containing prints of Seoni District, Madhya Pradesh, 1916, captioned in pencil on verso. Subjects include: forest bungalow, Rukhar; Mission High School, Seoni; tank at Rukhar; Jain temples, Seoni. (6 prints). 14. Envelope marked 1. Arang Temple, Raipur. 5 Gawilgarh Fort, Chikalda, 1919. Captioned in pencil on verso: Arang temple, Raipur; Plains from the Fort; Breach in walls made by Wellesley 1803; General view from distance. Fort; Fort walls and general view from distance; Front gateway. (6 prints). 15. Loose prints of New Delhi, Suez and Aden, one dated Nov. [19]25. (8 prints). 16. Photo wallet containing views of Ellora cave temples and Daulatabad, one view of the Bibi Muqbara, Aurangabad and a snapshot portrait of Mrs Stewart - Risod Camp, Xmas 1927. All dated 1927-28. (10 prints). 17. Miscellaneous loose prints, 1917-29. (12 prints). 18. Two Christmas cards illustrated with photographs: one a small card from Raja Jawahir Singh Bahadur of Sarangarh State, 1923, with figures posed around a dead tiger; the other from Sir Montagu and Lady Butler, with a view of Government House, Pachmarhi, c. 1925-30.
