Description

Sapphire contract position: HP.80 require six Sa.7 engines and English Electric nine Sa.5 for the P.1. Vulcan Special category test and 4 flight engines. Sapphire Hastings engines which are of an obsolete type are to be removed from the aircraft asap. Flying test beds: AST Lancastrian VM.733 (2 Sa.6 engines outboard); Gloster Meteor WA.820; Canberra WD.933; Canberra (2nd aircraft) VW.787 (two Sa.6). Prototype aircraft: Javelin WD.808 (Two Sa.6); Javelin WD.827 (two Sa.6); Handley Page HP.80 (Four Sa.6) WB.771; 2nd aircraft awaiting delivery of engines March or April 1953; English Electric P.1(two Sa.5); hawker Hunter Sa.7. Adder acceptance test completed on ASA.23. Viper test position and future programme. Viper in tail of Lancaster SW.342. Provost aircraft. Double Mamba test position and future development. 3-stage turbine. Fairey gannet VR.546; Fairey Gannet (2nd aircraft) VR.557; Fairey gannet (3rd aircraft)WE.488; Blackburn GR17/45 WB.797. Mamba test position: 3-stage turbine (Armstrong Siddeley Motors.5); Armstrong Siddeley Motors.6. SB.6 prototype flight engine. Lancaster SW.342; Dakota KJ.839; Balliol VL.935; Short SB.6 (M.123.D) 1st aircraft Armstrong Siddeley Motors Mamba Mk.3 Sturgeon type engines for initial flying (c) ASZ.172 and ASZ.173. First aircraft with Armstrong Siddeley Motors Mamba Mk.6 engines (required for Septembr 1953) 2nd aircraft with Armstrong Siddeley Motors Mamba Mk.6 engines (required for November 1953). Python test position. Wyvern VW.868 provisioned for Armstrong Siddeley Motors. Rocket: Screamer rocket motor. Awaiting confirmation of the delivery of the Meteor 8. Assisted take-off: Armstrong Siddeley Motors have submitted a design study to Avro for a unit of 40 seconds duration. Appendix 1: Sapphire. Appendix 2: Python. Appendix 3: Mamba.
