The volume consists of published copies of correspondence between the Foreign Office, the India Office, the Government of India, the Admiralty, British administrative and diplomatic staff, foreign governments and their staff, and private individuals. It was printed for use by the Foreign Office. The volume contains the following publications:. 'Part I. Further Correspondence Respecting the Affairs of Persia and Arabia. July to December 1899.' (ff 4-94); 'Part II. Further Correspondence Respecting the Affairs of Persia and Arabia. January to March 1900.' (ff 95-183); 'Part III. Further Correspondence Respecting the Affairs of Persia and Arabia. April to June 1900.' (ff 184-235); 'Part IV. Further Correspondence Respecting the Affairs of Persia and Arabia. July to December 1900.' (ff 236-364); The correspondence concerns activity in Aden, Koweit [Kuwait], Muscat, Oman, Persia [Iran], the Persian Gulf and Yemen as well as activity by foreign countries in the region, including France, Russia and Germany. It primarily concerns the following:. Political and diplomatic affairs; Financial affairs, including the loan made by Russia to Persia in 1900; Military affairs and activity, including a border dispute between Yemen and the Aden Protectorate; Transport and communications; Resource extraction; Quarantine and sanitary concerns; Customs arrangements, trade and smuggling, particularly in arms; Naval affairs; The following is also included:. A monthly summary of events for each month from July 1899-December 1900; French influence in Muscat and Oman, including the establishment of a coaling station at Muscat, with a related map of Makalla Cove (catalogued as IOR/L/PS/20/FO14, f 251), and also including copies of French diplomatic papers distributed at Sur (ff 276-278); Russian railway-related activity and concessionary arrangements in Persia, including a summary of a pamphlet by Rittich entitled 'Railways in Persia' (ff 207-210); Intertribal disputes on the Trucial Coast including the deaths of the Sheikhs [Shaikhs] of Ras-el-Khaima [Ra's al-Khaymah] and Sharga [Sharjah]; Steam navigation on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, including tables detailing the expenditure (f 164) and profits and losses (ff 323-324) of the Karun Extension line run by the Euphrates and Tigris Steam Navigation Company; The Shah [Shāh] of Persia's European tour, including a table detailing the official programme for the tour (f 219); The volume also contains two additional maps:. 'Sketch of Route of Tour in South Persia made by Sir. H. M. Durand. September-December 1899' (catalogued as IOR/L/PS/20/FO14, f 145); 'Sketch of Southern Persia.' (catalogued as IOR/L/PS/20/FO14, f 282)

The correspondence comprises correspondence arranged in chronological order from the front to the rear of the volume. Each piece of correspondence is assigned a consecutive number and most are followed by numbered enclosures. The volume is divided into parts, each covering a three-month period. At the beginning of each part there is a title page and a detailed table of contents which includes the name of the correspondent, the date of correspondence, a subject summary and the page number on which that entry can be found in the volume.
