Deposited by Midhurst R.D.C. or its successor, Chichester District Council, 1969-1979, except for RD/MH 31/2/25, which was deposited by I.Edelman, Curator of Gosport Museum, in May 1995. Note, however, that one of the earliest deposits was catalogued in the W.S.R.O. Add MSS series and the catalogue entries are merely reproduced here, while five photographs of bomb damage in Midhurst in 1943 are now catalogued in the W.S.R.O. PH series as PH 56-60.

A Rural Sanitary Authority was formed for Midhurst Union in 1872, under the Public Health Act of that year. In January 1895 it became the Midhurst Rural District Council, under the Local Government Act, 1894.
Between 1872 and 1933 there were many changes in parish boundaries, and the major alterations are tabulated below. Full details of all changes may be found in Boundary Changes in West Sussex, (W.S.R.O. MP 1348).
N. and S. Ambersham : 1972 - merged with neighbouring parishes and extinguished.

Bepton : nil.
Chithurst : 1972 - abolished, together with Iping, Stedham and Trotton. The parishes of "Milland", "Stedham and Iping", and "Trotton with Chithurst" were formed instead.
