The areas of the division for the priod covered by these records were as follows
Penge division corresponded to the area of the urban district, Bromley approximately to that of Bromley Union and County Court division, namely the parishes of Bromley, Beckenham, Chelsfield, Chislehurst, Cudham, Downe, Farnborough, Foots Cray (later Sidcup), Hayes, Keston, Knockholt, Mottingham, North Cray, Orpington, St. Mary Cray, St. Paul's Cray, West Wickham.

The records of Bromley and Penge Petty Sessional Divisions were deposited in two instalments, the first being transferred from Kent Archives Office, the second received from the Magistrates Court in February 1982. Because of the relationship between the two groups, it was decided to catalogue them together.
