Description (What the record is about)
-
Many of these chapbooks are undated, but all appear to be from the first quarter of the 19th century. They were printed and sold in York, and primarily aimed at children and adultsin the city. The chapbooks aimed at children all contain lavish woodcuts as illustrations throughout, and many contain a full Roman printed alphabet and Italian printed alphabet at either the beginning or the end. The chapbooks for adults do not contain illustrations. The first 72 chapbooks are of a very small format (referred to as Penny Books) whereas the remaining nine are a larger format. Please see individual item descriptions for more information.
