Par 3: I am not sure how far you are looking ahead for engines for the Vulcan, or versions of the Vulcan, but for the next one to two years the best we can offer is the fully developed Sa.7 Sapphire, which will have the following performances: (a) All 11,000 lb thrust take-off, at 8,600 rpm, a consumption of 85 lb will be obtained, at a jet-pipe temperature of 625 deg C (b) At 9,000 lb cruise and at 8,000 rpm, the consumption will be .8, and the jet pipe temperature 530 deg. C (c) The maximum cruise consumption of .785 occurs at 7,500 rpm, when the thrust is 7,300 lb. and the jet pipe temperature 465 deg. C The letter (page 2) goes to discuss the performance of the Sa.4 and the Rolls-Royce RA.14 (Olympus). Mr Saxton thinks that the Sapphire Sa.7 is the best option
