United Kingdom: England, southeast coast: Kent: Isle of Sheppey, Leysdown-on-Sea (Leysdon) to Herne Bay (Hearn Bay). 'A Survey of the East Swale from The Buoys of the Narrows and Spaniard’. Incorporating 4 views: 1) 'Boughton Hill called by the Sailors Bartons Hill'; 2) 'A Remarkable Clump of Trees'; 3) 'Juds Folly House and Hill'; 4) 'Shottenden Hill and Mill'. Survey shows coastline, hydrography, buoys, vegetation, land use (merchants and King's powder works), farms, roads, settlements, land marks, sight lines, remarks (inlcuding 'Sailing directions for the East Swale') and explanatory key. Includes illustration of a ship. Printed. Watermark: 'VCG [?]' with crest and fleur-de-lis. North point with compass indicator (variation in remarks, 1786). Scale: 4.6 inches to 1 nautic league or 3 miles. Surveyed 'by John Stephenson a Master in the Royal Navy'; printed as the Act directs for Robert Sayer, No 53 Fleet Street, [London], 1 November 1786. Annotated: (in black ink): explanatory key relating to access to the land, inlcuding suitability for anchorages; (in red ink): remarks; (brown crayon): routes
