INTRODUCTION

This, the seventeenth volume of Additional Manuscripts (Add Mss), has, in general, been compiled along the lines indicated in the introduction to the first volume

Apart from deeds of title, which form the major part of this volume, there will also be found the Arundel Poll Book of 1741 (Add Mss 12,935); Records of the "Wren House" Players, 1942 (Add Mss 12,945); Account Book of the Oliver Whitby Charity, 1887 - 1922 (Add Mss 12,946); and the Window Tax Assessment for Amberley, 1799 (Add Mss 12,947). The documents range in date from a deed of land in Pagham, 1535 (Add Mss 12,751) to the records of the "Wren House" Players, 1942

No index has been provided for this volume, as all the relevant details of this, and all previous volumes, have been included in the card indexes of persons, places, subjects and manors which are to be found in the Search Room of the County Record Office

Students are again asked to exercise care in quoting references, and to use the form indicated in the introduction to the first volume
