Description (What the record is about)
-
The collection contains photography of churches, country houses and urban buildings taken by Goodhart-Rendel, with an emphasis on those designed by nineteenth century architects such as G E Street, and buildings to his own designs. 44% of the collection shows ecclesiastical buildings, 21% domestic buildings and 17% country houses, including Hatchlands which was Goodhart-Rendel's main residence.
Sites in most English counties are represented in the collection with a bias to the south, particularly Surrey at 14% and Sussex with 12%.
In the absence of more precise documentation, the date range of the collection has been estimated to be between 1910 and 1940 on the basis of internal evidence and the period within which Goodhart-Rendel was most likely taking the photographs
