Reports relating to Waterworks in the City of Bath

This series of reports collected by the Town Clerk includes reports written by Engineers or the Town Clerk and submitted to the various Waterworks committees of the Council, and those written by the Committees and submitted to the full Council.
These reports cover a wide range of operational, technical, and legal issues relating to the Bath City Waterworks and its development throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. Subjects covered include: surveying and acquisition of new springs, rights of land owners, inspections for loss of water, abstraction of water from the mains, insufficiency of the water supplies, estimates of cost for the laying of new mains, construction progress for new reservoirs, areas served by private waterworks, compensation disputes, Corporation waterworks legal positions, sanitary conditions, progress of Bills in Parliament, acquisition of private waterworks, applications to the Local Government Board for powers to undertake works or raise funds, the best means of increasing the supply of water, extension of the boundaries of supply, waste water prevention, and protection of springs.
[There is a gap in this set of records covering c.1851-c.1861, this partly coincides with a gap in the Minutes of the Cold Water Committee covering 1851-1855, it is thought that these records have been removed from the collections at some point in the past (pre-1960s at least) and never returned.]
