Gallantry Notes: MC: For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during two days of severe fighting in charge of four machine guns. The enemy broke through the line in the rear of his position but in spite of heavy shelling and machine gun fire he faced his guns about and held the position until the infantry had withdrawn on the following day. His courageous and prompt action undoubtedly prevented the enemy gaining any advantage.;
