This lever arch folder is marked Birmingham Trades Council Executive and contains Paul Mackney's copies of business papers, including agenda for and minutes of meetings, reports etc. Some of these are annotated and they cover the full range of BTUC business at this time. There are a number of references to TURC with which Mackney was closely involved at this time. These references include: 22/06/1981 Item 4d) Continued Minutes; Youth Employment Resource Unit, Nomination to Management Committee; 20/07/1981 Item 8b) Matters Arising: Resolution re: Establishment of a Trade Union Research Centre; 14/12/1981 Item 9 Minutes of Resource Centre Sub-Committee meeting of 26/11/81; 13/12/1982 Item 10 Minutes of TURC Mgt Cttee were considered. NOTE: it was agreed (by BTC Executive Cttee) to inform the Resource Centre Management Committee that the Executive Committee wished the Resource Centre to co-operate in this matter (offering accommodation to the Co-ordinator for the Centre for the Unemployed); 25/04/1983 Item 8 Minutes of TURC Mgt Cttee were approved. NOTE: It was agreed to invite the Resource Centre to endeavour to improve the order of priority of certain projects originated by the Trades Council; 25/11/1985 Item 10 (3) Resource Centre Reports; TUC Circular on the Trade Union Resources Trust NOTE: A circular from the TUC indicated that no trade union should be involved with this Trust. This was considered [by BTC] to be a provocative communication which was designed to undermine the ability of Resource Centres to generate funds in the future; 12/12/1988 Item 11 Report from TURC Management Committee NOTE: re: Funding Crisis. It was noted that YETRU & TURC were possibly suffering from the link with BTC and its policy. It was welcomed that the projects were using the crisis to examine their services & relationship with users; 20/03/1989 Item 4.3 Matters Arising: TURC Funding NOTE Avtar Jouhl criticised Secretary of BTC over his interventions in meeting with Chair of BCC EDC.
