Files containing two ts. reports and accompanying appendices (44pp and 41pp) on the work of Number 6 RAPW1 (Repatriation of Allied Prisoners of War and Internees) on Java, September-December 1945, including details on the organisation and setting up of the unit in August 1945 and analyses of events on Java during military opposition from Indonesian Nationalists. The first report (compiled in December 1945) was written by Wing Commander T S Tull, the second by Lieutenant-Colonel F H G Eggleton.

Administrative / biographical background

For sixteen years before the outbreak of the Second World War, Gomme lived and worked as a rubber planter in Java, but left the island with his family in June 1941 and joined the 3rd Madras Regiment. He served as DAA and QMG of a prisoner of war camp for Italians at Bairagh in India until the end of 1945 and from January to July 1946 served as DAA and QMG to Number 6 RAPWI (Repatriation of Allied Prisoners of War and Internees) on Java.
