The Company appears to have traded at Conimere irregularly for several years before 1681 when permission was received from the ruler of Porto Novo to establish a factory there. The main export was cloth. Conimere is situated on the Coromandel coast about thirteen miles north of Pondicherry. In 1688 the factors of Cuddalore and Porto Novo were transferred to Conimere. When Fort St David was established in 1698, the factory at Conimere was abandoned. The records from this factory cease at around the time that Fort St George became a presidency, which suggests that they were then sent there rather than to London.
