Material relating to Andy de la Tour's career in alternative comedy/stand-up comedy, as well as that of the Alternative Cabaret collective.
The Collection includes audiovisual recordings (audio and video) recorded between 1980 and 1989 of Andy de la Tour and others (including Alexei Sayle, Rik Mayall, Pauline Melville, Maggie Steed) in various locations including London (Elgin, Pentameters) and Belfast; set lists; contracts (for Andy de la Tour and Alternative Cabaret); press coverage and promotional material; and photographs.
At the point of deposit, Andy was interviewed by Oliver Double. This interview has been catalogued as GB 1089 BSUCA/OD/1/56; it provides much context for the material accessioned into BSUCA/AT.

Administrative / biographical background

Andy de la Tour is an actor, writer, and comedian. In the early 1980s he performed as part of Alternative Cabaret, a collective of politically motivated stand-up comedians, musicians and actors. He also performed solo comedy shows, as well as in shows with comedians Ben Elton and Rik Mayall, and also appeared in television programmes such as The Young Ones and Bottom. In 1983 he hosted An Evening for Nicaragua.
