Description (What the record is about)
-
The contents of this file were formerly in a portfolio entitled, "John Woodward. 1806, 1807," with the reference cF2. Under M. R. Boulton arrangement, about 1819, the file was placed in Box I. i ("Special Correspondents-Agents"). Unfortunately, the portfolio is now missing.
The contents are arranged in three chronological sequences:
Letters.
Copies, 1806.
Copies, 1807.
The Copies were formerly in two annual packets. The letters appear to be of at least two kinds, namely letters folded in half and docketed by William Cheshire, without summaries, and letters folded in three and docketed by M. R. Boulton, with summaries; the distinction between these is not clear. It is possible that some of the letters here were transferred by the Assay Office from the files relating to Samuel Garbett's Bankruptcy.Summaries in quotation-marks are taken from the contemporary dockets.
