Sun and Planet Engines. (3 items).

216. James Monach, Glasgow. Feb. 1801. 3 items.
8 horse power sun & planet engine, with 16 inch cylinder, 4 foot stroke, parallel motion. Engine formerly belonged to Matthew Boulton, Soho Mint.

Reverse plan and sections of the engine and boiler houses, framing and cistern. All the drawings bear letter codes.

Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 418. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 2, 164.

For James Monach. Cotton mill, Glasgow. This engine formerly powered the Soho Mint. The drawings for it were kept in Book 107. It was replaced by a 12 horse engine when the mint machinery was replaced in 1798-1799. Monach bought the engine in 1801, and a new Drawing Office book, No. 418 was opened.
