Administrative / biographical background

The Lodge began as the Layton Club of Instruction, (named after the brother who donated the club furniture) and initially met at 127 Newington Green Road. By the late 1920s the venue had shifted to the Three Crowns, Stoke Newington Church Street and in 1927 the club changed its name to the John Anley Club of Instruction (later Masonic Instruction). The last name was adopted in 1991 and the minutes run up to 1996. Later venues included the Rochester Castle, Stoke Newington High Street and the Downs Hotel, Downs Park Road.
