The building in Station Road was originally erected for use by the Wesleyan Methodists around 1850. In 1869 Mr Joshua Wilson, representing Mount Pleasant Congregational Church, Tunbridge Wells purchased the building following requests by the Wesleyans, who were experiencing financial difficulties. After discussions between Mayfield and Mount Pleasant, the Rev Snell was appointed as their minister. In 1907 the church reformed as a Congregational Church
In 1931 the connection with Mount Pleasant Congregational Church ended, and Mayfield became a corporate member of the Sussex Congregational Union. Due to the growth of the church in the 1950s extensive alterations and improvements were undertaken including enlargement of the hall and kitchen, a new pulpit, and a new heating system
In January 1980 the Congregational Church started sharing their building with Colkin Mill Evangelical Church. As a result of financial problems and the decreasing congregation, discussions with the Congregational Union about the future of the church were held in 1982
The church ceased to worship on 2 January 1983, but the premises continued to be used by the Colkins Mill Evangelical Church
