Immediate source of acquisition

The records were deposited by Mr A Zatman in February 1998 (Accession Number 1998/12). Regalia from the order was passed to the Jewish Museum, Cheetham Hill Road.

Administrative / biographical background

The Grand Order was a Jewish Friendly Society. In 1955, its stated aims were to provide payments on the death of a member or a member's spouse, the birth of a child, during sickness, Shiva (confined mourning), and general relief of members in distressed circumstances including payments to the widows and orphans of members.
