Administrative / biographical background

The Nimba Tales project focused on the narrative oral stories and cultural traditions of the Guinean (Conakry) community that lives in Greater Manchester, and was conducted in 2015. As a result of years of civil unrest in Guinea Conakry and the outbreak of Ebola virus in West Africa, the community living in Greater Manchester were frightened that the lives that continue to be claimed across Guinea would have a devastating effect on their oral traditions and culture. The Nimba Tales project recorded stories from all parts of Guinea and presented them creatively in a comic book to illustrate Guinean traditions and cultures so that current and future generations can have a permanent memory of their roots. The comic book was launched at a celebratory event held in October 2015. This project was delivered by Warm Hut UK and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
