Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to theSecretary of State for India, no. 252 of 1870, dated 14 December 1870,containing enclosures dated 9 July-5 December 1870. The enclosures consist of copies ofcorrespondence relating to an attack on Muscat and Oman by Syud Toorkee [Sayyid Turkī bin Sa'īd Āl Bū Sa'īd], including:. A meeting at sea between Toorkee and the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, who warned Toorkee against continuing to the Muscat coast; Reports that Toorkee has landed at Khor Fekkan [Khawr Fakkan] and is marching on Beraymee [Al Buraymi]; The occupation of Soor [Sur] by some of Toorkee's supporters, and their assurances that British subjects and property there will not be harmed; A victory over Toorkee by the Ruler of Aboothabee [Abu Dhabi] at Beraymee, and a victory over the Sultan of Muscat Azan bin Ghes [Sayyid 'Azzān bin Qays Āl Bū Sa'īd] by supporters of Toorkee at Zunk [Dank]; The primary correspondents are: Syud Toorkee; Hajee Ahmed Khan [Ḥājjī Aḥmad Khān], Governor of Bunder Abbas [Bandar-e 'Abbas]; Ali bin Khelfan ['Alī bin Khalfān], leader of Toorkee's supporters in Soor; the Political Resident and the Assistant Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the Political Agent, Muscat; the Government of Bombay; and the Government of India.
