Description

Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Lodge of Concord [Moderns] and general corespondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1774 - 1786, 1788 - 1797 and 1801 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

Lodge of Concord was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet at the Hare and Hounds Inn, Barnard Castle, Durham as No. 406 in November 1770. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 314 in 1780 and as No. 315 in 1781. The Lodge was named as Lodge of Concord in 1785 and met at various inns and taverns in Barnard Castle. In 1792 the Lodge was renumbered as No. 262. The Lodge was erased on 4 April 1798 but was reinstated on 12 February 1800. After the Moderns' Grand Lodge formed a Union with the Antients' Grand Lodge the Lodge was renumbered as No. 332. In 1832 the Lodge was renumbered as No. 231. In 1835 the Lodge moved to the Angel Inn, Market Place, Barnard Castle where meetings remained until the lodge was erased on 7 March 1838.
