<span class="wrapper"><p>Deposited in the Regimental Museum in Shrewsbury Castle:-</p> <p>Engraving, in an oval frame, with inscription on dorse: "?Lt Wittel Lieutenant/in His/ Britannic Majesty's Regiment of ?Meu?on.. asassinated at Paris by order of Buonaparte April 4th 1807</p> <p>The Murder'd vistim of a Robespierre</p> <p>Thy Parent prov'd - In loylaty his heir</p> <p>Thou too hast fallen Take this sad farewel</p> <p>My friend, My nephew, unrevenged Wittel</p> <p>Only thy Sprity can to Earth descend</p> <p>Rouse Slumbring Justice and bid Tyrants end.</p> <p>Lines addressed by his Uncle</p> <p>Part of the colours of the 53rd Regiment of Infantry worked by the ladies of Shrewsbury and presented to the regiment in front of the enemy (Indian) by Lt Colonel Wm Rose Mansfield in July 1852 at Peshawur, Punjab, E.I. and carried in battles in the Indian Mutiny, 1857-9. James Barnaby was putting them up on the walls of Lucknow at its relief when he was shot. Also pieces of a captured Indian flag of the IIIrd Reg. Infantry Scindia's Contingent. The piece was lent to an exhibition in India and whilst there pieces were cut out.</p> <p>2 notes re the colours by M. Devey?</p></span>
